How does the Urbalive worm box work?
In the first of a total of 2 work shifts, the worms are fed with chopped organic waste, paper and cardboard. During the composting process, the layer of finished worm humus (food broken down by the worms) gets higher and higher. The worms then migrate further and further upwards, along with the fresh food. Depending on the amount of compost, the first layer is full of worm humus after about 2 months - now the second work layer can be placed on top, and from now on only this is fed into. The worms can migrate into the second layer on their own through the holes in the bottom of the individual work layers. After the second layer is full, most of the worms only stay in the second (upper) work layer. The worm humus in the lower (first) work layer can now be "harvested" and then placed back on top - a never-ending cycle in which the 2 layers alternate with each other. Excess water (worm tea), if it has formed, can be drained off at any time using the tap at the bottom - diluted 1 to 10 with water, it makes a great liquid fertilizer :-)
Our final opinion on the Urbalive worm composter:
Extremely stylish and a real eye-catcher - the Urbalive composter was therefore often requested from us. After a longer test phase, we found the Urbalive to be good, added it to our range and can recommend it for use on the balcony, terrace, in the basement, garage or even in the living room.
In general, the worms always stay where they are happy. During the acclimatization phase (the first 2 weeks) and later, very rarely, it can happen that individual worms try to escape. If you want to prevent this completely, you should provide a light source (small lamp) in the dark (night), because worms never go where there is light.
